Where to go in Tokyo??

Recommended Posts

@Hollo will probably have the best input, but basically prices have been going up in the stores that deal exclusively with retro gaming and the further you go from the known mainstream areas like Akihabara the more likelier you are to find good deals. Purchasing junk ie untested hardware is generally how you get decent priced consoles that mostly work but obviously not guaranteed, also try hitting up the Book Off / Hard Off chain of stores and check in other threads as this question pops up fairly often.

My favourtie Arcades in Tokyo are these. Mikado which is right next to the Takodanobaba train station, a couple of pins there and some dedicated retro arcade cabs.

There is another good retro one on the Odaiba island, can't remember if it has a name but it is in the Itchome mall in the Decks building near the Sega Joypolis, it has about eight or so pins, some old EMs and newer DMDs as well ranging from completely knackered to quite good condition, as well as some old cocktail arcade cabs like Space Invaders.

Akihabara has about a dozen or so Arcades but the best is the Hirose Entertainment Yard (HEY). Only has candy cabs but it's an awesome selection, old games like Donkey Kong and Pac-man all the way up to the newer releases and a large selection of shmups.
