I found this on Gumtree the a few days ago but it was 340 k's away (near Grafton) which is normally to far to go to pick up a machine but as I had to go to Lismore to drop off a cab for another AA member I decided to do the extra k's and paid a deposit to secure the cab.

The guy had owned it for over 20 years and said it came from a take away in Newcastle.

Apparently it was working until he moved it recently and then it would show garbage on screen or just keep resetting.

Voltages checked okay so I started to look at the ROMs, when I pulled the two white gold pinned ROMs a few legs fell off each one. the rest of the ROMs were okay. I removed some pins from some spare IC sockets and soldered them to the ROMs.

Plugged the board back in and it now plays fine.

Very happy with the cab, clean, no mods or hacks of any kind.

The TOEI monitor is crisp and bright with no burn in.

The only thing needed is a new glass top as the original was replaced at some time and the corners on the replacement glass don't match the table top.

Thanks for helping me identify one of my cabshttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160409/38f9ce7ec9e05eb361e9cd23da8674ed.jpg it's as rough as guts but it'll get the treatment. The mdf box on the side was held on with about 40 nails so it'll need re laminating. When you get time could I get a scan of the instruction cards and a pic of the board? I really like the marbled top on these. Congrats on a great find it looks in really nice condition.

Excellent bargain you got there Kaizen. Much better condition than you described!

Very lucky with the simple fix also. Screen looks great for its age!

Now you can gut it and throw away the board, put 2 xboxs in, an led TV and hook some guns up to it! Lol jk ;)

Great find.

Wow, I'd be interested to see how it scrubs up.

I'll post some more pics here later.

Is it complete inside?

No board or credit board and holder but not too bad. The wiring harness has been butchered. No lcd for this one, crt all the way. This is the side with the nails.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160409/6f9318966962b619d05f3c1bb333c237.jpg Trev

I fired my cab up last night and there was no sound.

I started checking the sound PCB (all good) checked for activity at the edge connector (all good). Tourn out my speaker had died. It measured 800k ohm, I put a temporary one in to test and I now have sound back.

I picked up a bulk lot of PCB's recently and have just got around to testing them.

In the lot there were two Logitech Space Invaders PCBs.

One 3-Layer and one 2-Layer the same as what's in my cocktail.

They were sold untested which in most cases 98% of the time when I buy untested boards they are either dead or have issues.

First on the bench was a Logitec 3-Layer set (Clone of the Taito).

Notice the Taito label on the bottom later.

I powered it up and the game booted and played perfectly.

All sounds correct and working.

Next was the cocktail PCB.

It too booted up with no issues.

Hey Kaizen, sorry to bring up an old thread.

I'm curious though as I'm doing some research on the Logitec Space Invaders.

Your picture shows what looks like the colour version of original Space Invaders (ie: not part II/deluxe) and it also has the "Logitec. Co Ltd" at the bottom of the screen. From my research (and there isn't a lot of info on this SI version) it appears that they only released a black and white version where the bottom 3rd is in the colour green (on a colour monitor without overlays ). They did that through some trickery rather than the normal way of displaying the green I believe.

In MAME the only Logitec rom set available is the B/W with the green lower third. There doesn't appear to be any other Logitec set. The only set that I've found which is the full colour version of the original is the Space Invaders (CV set) - "Colour Version or Video" perhaps. Anyway that one looks to be the same one as your board but it has "Taito" at the bottom and therefore looks to be the original from Taito.

So I guess my question is, Is yours the same as the SI (CV version) except with the Logitec wording in which case is it likely that your particular board has not actually been dumped into the MAME project as yet?

I was going to get around to dumping all the sets I have and comparing them to MAME.

I get on to it in the next day or so.

Awesome!... I've ended up in possession with one myself (although it has no SI PCB) so I'm keen to understand what roms relate to the original Logitec color version that you have as this is exactly the version and cabinet I played when I was growing up. If I can't get a boardset I wanted to set up a rasperryJamma with the right rom set to recreate the experience :)

It will be interesting to see what you find when you do the dump comparison. My bets are on it being identical with the SI (CV) romset except with just the title screen company name changed. It will be interesting to know if that is indeed the case.

Either way, looks like you have a rare romset.
