headkaze
================================================== *** ACCESSORIES *** ================================================== - USB to 2.5mm Power Charger Cable - AU Power Adapter ================================================== *** CUSTOM FIRMWARE *** ================================================== http://boards.dingoonity.org/jxd-devices/(s7800)-kitkat-custom-firmware-(android-4-4-4)/ http://goo.gl/TMkUlr (4 GB NAND) http://goo.gl/XAv96P (NAND Select) The default version gives 4GB NAND that limits some installs to the 4 GB.. some apps can be moved to SD. But some can’t. So I went with the 10 GB NAND and then moved most stuff to the SD. So to select the custom amount of NAND you need the "NAND Select" version of the custom firmware ie. 7800-android-4_4_4-custom-firmware-[nand_select].rar NOTE: There are problems installing the drivers to flash the JXD using Windows 8.1. I used Windows 7 x64 and was successful. You may have to install the drivers manually in Device Manager. Make sure you have your JXD's USB mode "Connect As" a Mass Storage device. If the first flash failed like it did for me (I got the message "idb-nand failed. try erasing IDB before flashing"). I then used the EraseIDB button and it appeared to brick the JXD. It would not power on anymore. If you hold down the power button you should notice Windows will still detect it being plugged in. I attempted the flash again and this time it worked. After flashing go to Settings->Storage and set your default storage location to the Micro SD Card. Features: • Custom kernel ported to KK and built completely from scratch • Max. Jesder
I grabbed one about 12 months ago also and have been really happy with it. Reasonably priced and can run a nice range of emulators.
headkaze
Great to hear other JXD fans. Yeah I think it's the best portable I've ever owned. Actually the best gaming device I've ever owned. Great value (currently running at $196 AUD for the 16 GB version with free shipping from the official JXD store) I've updated the first post with the firmware I'm using. I've also added a list of recommended accessories, games, utilities and emulators (I will keep this updated as I learn more) What firmware are you guys using and what emulators and apps do you guys recommend? Some stock Android games I highly recommend: - GTA San Andreas - Soul Calibur - Virtua Tennis The games above work with the default controls. Unfortunately I have yet to master the Tincore Keymapper app so I have not got controls working for MK X and LEGO Star Wars. PS Please upload a screenshot of your JXD (hold power and volume down buttons to save to a Screenshots folder) Edited May 11, 2015 by headkaze
headkaze
I had some problems with the updated Apex Launcher crashing the machine so I changed to the Nova Launcher. I used the "No-frills CPU Control CLASSIC" app to overlock the 1.4 GHz CPU to 1.6 GHz and set "Governor" to performance. Doesn't seem to be causing any problems so far. BTW LEGO Star Wars works fine with the built-in controls. Not sure what I did wrong before but if you select START and then use the analog stick to go to NEW GAME then select using the A button you should be good to go. Deleted Mortal Kombat X as it appears to be touch only controls. Same with Batman Arkham Origins. Don't bother with these two titles. NOTE: It's super easy to take screenshots and uploading them to DropBox. Hold the power button and volume down until you hear a chime. It will say "Saving screenshot...". Go to the Gallery app and select your image. You should have a button at the top right corner to upload directly to DropBox (once you have it installed). Jesder
How's your JDX going @headkaze ? I haven't touched mine for awhile. What's a good firmware to run on it? I think I had SuperCharged running on mine. Are there better ones available now?
joele
kids killed mine, was a great unit for me but not for an 8 year old (at least not mine), killed the fragile little charge port so couldn't recharge. The new one looks like the 7800 on steroids.. not cheap though.. http://www.jxdofficial.com/jxd-s192-game-cosole-powered-by-nvidia-tegra-k1-2gb-ddr3-32gb-storage-black.html http://www.jxdofficial.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/650x/040ec09b1e35df139433887a97daa66f/_/0/_02_1.jpg
headkaze
How's your JDX going @headkaze ? I haven't touched mine for awhile. I tend to use my Nvidia Shield Tablet more these days but the new JXD S192 certainly looks nice and it includes the same Tegra K1 processor. What's a good firmware to run on it? I think I had SuperCharged running on mine. Are there better ones available now? I haven't looked at the custom firmwares in a while and I still run the same one from my first post. The build quality of the S7800 is not the best so I hope they have improved upon that with the S192.
joele
I ended up buying the GPD Q9 to replace my broken 7800, very similar to the 7800 just a slightly newer CPU and a promise of Android 6 in a few months, will believe it when I see it..
