What pins have been coming thru the Dedshed

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I'm still hanging on to the shed, haven't been "moved on" yet.

So in between doing my own restores , will get back to EK soon when parts come, and working stupid hours while tending to the 3 legged dog, I take on some machines.

Some to just give a quick strip and clean, and then test. Others require much more being container pins.

Some just need a tweek and some adjustments.

So 1st up was a quick couple of adjustments to a Xenon. Just needed the flippers sorted out, some Gi fixed , the tube shortened and put in the correct position with post moved as well. Also the ramp switch where the ball kept catching.

Next up was TSPP.

This had garage door problems. So installed stronger coils to the door and VUK. Changed the shit LEDs for some cool frosted dome type. Made a big difference. Also after not booting up, ended up finding the Neutral line had come out of the plug that goes to the transformer.

This pin had already been stripped and cleaned/fixed earlier. It's currently on site going thru some severe testing and will be back for a clean before going back to its home.

Next up is why I started the thread. Am going through the system 11 games. They are in a bad way.

Black Knight 2000 (Williams)

This was in a bad way. I'm not doing playfield restores but just general repairs, clean and make look/play nice.

First was to make a list of what needed doing. Keeps growing.

Flat batteries so did a battery mod while making the list.

Time to start stripping and cleaning , remove the top PF to see what I'm in for, and the first thing I see is a red wire running from the top flipper wrapped around the harness and straight thru to the Aux board. Sigh.

Play fields are filthy but have Mylar mostly. Which can be bad

Heaps of broken plastics and posts. Plus broken wrong type posts.

So ordered some posts , red as no clear in stock and needed red for upper PF.

Also clear plast protector set to help stabilise the broken ones.

Nice work mate !

That BK2000 sure got a flogging.

Will come up a treat with good clean, Leds and re-rubber.

I was looking for a pinball for the missus as she is super keen on Pinball and misses the Spidey we had.

Ended up getting a really nice BK2000 from Pinball Shed. ( Thanks Tony and team :) )

Missus really enjoys this one, More than Metallica, It crazy because BK2000 is a super fast and much harder Pin than METLE.

Amazing how the pops always seem to be in such good nick, yet you look at pops on other 25+ year old pins are sad,

unsure of the secret ?

As most are well aware the big letdown is the mylar bubbling on these :(

Anyways, thanks for the resto thread and all the pics :023:

Look us up if you need any reference info.

Cheers,

Ando

Yeah Ando.

The Mylar bubbling is a big let down, as well as wear up top where there is none. . But other than that it all looks fine.

The habbitrails are both broken and really need replacing. but got them workable for now.

Yeah it's fast. I think mainly because the flipper coils get upgraded from the 11630 to the newer 11629. Bit of over kill.

Give the flippers a bit of a clean, makes a difference. Added some red titans. Makes them pop.

f10d3eccfff09eff804c78736c4f26e9.jpg

Installed flipper kits and upgraded to the newer type without the plunger spring.

No wonder the red upper flipper dodgy wiring went directly to the 50V on the Aux board. The EOS on the lower flipper along with the upper flipper actuator switch were not only non existent but not even close to operating.

So made up a set out of a kit. 5418b878fd426ceafad217e6e90e016a.jpg

Added a set of mirror blades, left them unpeeled for now, and then went to work underneath cleaning all the light boards and inserts.

Then it was time to add the insert LED's. Colour matched the inserts to make it pop.

Then it was time to re install the upper pf and led the rest of it.

Red under the lane guides and in the pop bumpers.

To clean lane guides and reusable posts, I just use a bowl with soapy water to soak and the clean with a small paint brush.

For screws and metal posts I use the drill with some novus2 and a scotchbrite pad.

They come up sweet.

For those that might not know , the upper play field is hinged and locks forward for ease of access.

What pins have been coming thru the Dedshed

With the play field mostly done it was time to check coils, switches and lamps, among other oddities and missing or non working bits.

There was a few switch errors, one being the 3rd lock. Board had been hacked and wire soldered direct.

This still ended up being intermittent so will need further investigation at a later date.

For now I did the connector and resolder on the board and still intermittent.

75a12cefb0b7a0623a9cb0e32322725a.jpg

Then there's the usual gi connectors that always have a burnt plug. So fixed that. Was only backbox panel luckily but the relay board was hacked and shorted too. Did the connector and resolder on the relay but think it's stuffed. Will need replacing. At least the bottom string works for now which is better than none.

Unplugged the interconnector board and checked and it was really nice [emoji1303]

Pulled the CPU board and replaced a locked on lamp row transistor. This board was in much worse shape and had wrong parts and bad solder jobs all over it.

The lamps weren't completely locked on as they tested good in test but were mostly always on in gameplay.

Instead of TIP42 it had 44s.

So after a few weekends of a few hours here and there and a lot of tweaking, it looks and plays so much better.

Ended up pinching a decent original plunger, play field hinges and few other parts from the next machine in the line up.

Peeled the mirror blades and had a heap of games til 3am as more were coming up and this is being sent home.

Still needs a few bits and pieces but is mostly done.

Here's the result

So FH and WW turned up today and BK2K goes home. SoF is next in line.

Looks great Edy. One of the best soundtracks out there and amazing light show.

Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

This game really used to annoy me, but after spending so much time playing it the last few weeks, it has grown on me and the soundtrack doesn't irk me anymore.

The lighting is amazing, the flasher work alone. And I haven't even upgraded them to LED yet.

Just reading on pinside earlier tonight and planetary pinball are rumoured to be doing a run of BK 2000 playfields later this year.:o

No I think the challenge and talent is doing as Dedrok is doing, a true restorer, not just a replacer.

Outstanding work Dedrok.

P.S....If you use dish-washing liquid instead of soap to clean the posts and plastics, you won't get soap scum and you can just wash them clean after a night's soak.

The wife gets the shits when she wakes up in the morning and sees the kitchen sink full of pinball posts and playfield plastics but it works a treat.;)

The dishwasher makes short work of the metal work too. Just don't try putting anything plastic in the dishwasher though. It will end in tears. I wish I could fit the pinball's legs in sometimes.

Yeah, I have a plastic bowl and use dishwashing liquid

With warm water.

Don't have a dishwasher or a wife. Aren't they the same thing anyway ?

Also

Don't tell anyone, but my EK and Playboy were replacements.

I'll be sure to let the owner know.

If we don't strip and restore at a later date, I'm sure he'll grab one for me to change over.

For now we just want decent working games, that I will most likely line up and go thru tweaking again later.

So I was going to do swords of fury next, but I did the gi in Monopoly so that I could swap it out on site with RCT as it was a container pin and has also been sited since and needed some attention before going back out on site.

So up next

Roller Coaster Tycoon

Playfield is in good condition. Ramps are all still good.

There are quite a few dodgy lamp sockets that need changing and a no.n working trip coil. The main reasons I wanted to do it next.

Once all the nightmare ramp system is off, there's not much left on the playfield.

I have a special plan for the backing board that holds in the ramps.

Here's what I consider as the best shot in pinball. The reverse scoop. I hope to see it make a return on another title.

Alien from Heighway Pinball has one.

I really enjoy RCT! Love the shots and the layout, just wish the troll was not in the game.

I would seriously consider owning one of these if was not for the damn Troll!

Keen to see your backboard plans.....
