New purchase cabinet with screen issue

blown36

Question

I picked this up early last year and thought I'd start to have a look and try to figure out why the screen wont fire up properly.

There were no keys so I've drilled the lock out to get into it.

I should say I have nil experience with these.

The line on the screen is as far it goes to booting up.

Any ideas will be welcomed.

The monitor chassis is in need of a service

look up JOMAC in the sponsors section he is a wizz

Or that looks like a 60 in 1 PCB you can remove the monitor and replace with a PC monitor and change the DIP switch settings on the game board

Hey @blown36

I can't quite tell from the picture if it's a vertical line or a horizontal line - depends on which way your monitor is.

After a quick web search, it could be:

  • Vertical line - possibly the horizontal deflection circuit

  • Horizontal line - possibly the vertical deflection circuit

Or it could be loose connections/cold solder joints.

Do a bit of research on these topics and you find a heap of web pages on them. The fixes will probably involve testing/replacing a component or two - either on the chassis (picture 2) or the rear of the CRT.

If you decide it's something you can do - make sure you watch what you touch - some high voltages lurk around long after the powers off and the plug is pulled out!! If it's not your thing - there are probably some on this forum who could fix it for you (ie @Jomac ?)

Cheers,

Andy

What he said ^

Discharge the tube and remove the chassis and send it to Jomac.

If you don't know how to discharge the tube and or remove the chassis, ask for help, or post where in you are in Qld, and a local member might be able to assist.

Regards,

Johns-Arcade.

Ok so I tried a pc monitor into the 60 in board and it works fine.

I'll discharge the screen and pull it out over the weekend. From my pinball background I can test some transistors, if that doesnt show up any problems I will send it to Jomac.

Cheers.
