Setting up a dvd recorder...advice needed.

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

Wondered if anyone can help me....This is really off the arcade / pinball track however, I need some advice.

I'm trying to set up a dvd recorder to my LCD tv, foxtel and surround sound. When foxtel was first installed it was connected to an old VCR via a scart. I tried to do it the same way, but it doesn't work....the setup menu for the recorder doesn't show up.

I had a friend come over and have a go...we spent hours last night (I'm sure the alcohol consumed directly correlated to our inability to sort it). In the end he said pay someone to do it....I'd like to avoid that.

If anyone can advise me how to do it i'd be very grateful and please, please make it in very basic terms.

Naomi.

First step is to get the dvd recorder to show on the tv, video out Yellow from the dvd to the input of the tv & the audio is the same ie dvd audio out to tv input to tv play a dvd in recorder to see if this is working. then if this works then take a spare output from the foxtel box rca plugs ?(i have austar but your decoder box should have this) to the input side of the dvd recorder then though the menu of the dvd you should be able to find line1 line2 etc (i have a samsung) and hopefully you should have picture & sound. does this help ? post a pic of the back connectors of the foxtel box & recorder if you have no luck

DVD Recorders usually have several different quality modes depending on the the quality vs. recording time. Like you would have 8 hours LP or 4 hours SP etc. Although you don't say if the quality is from recording or just playing back a DVD rented from the video store.

If you can use Component or SCART (RGB) over RCA (RW/Y) for the better picture quality because it splits the video signal up into the 3 colours.
