DMD question

Shock_And_Awe

Question

G'day guys,

My Drac pinny's display is a little dodgy and does not display the top horizontal line very well. I ran a test sequence through and all it appears to be is the one line. The problem is that it is the top line of whatever is displayed if you know what I mean. Whether it is writing mid-screen or if the complete display is filled in test mode, it is the top line.

I was looking behind it earlier and found the strip of wires that comes out on the right hand side of the back of the dmd and goes to the circuit boards (has about 15 wires in across in the strip) has been damaged in a section and 3 of the wires are severed. What is this cable or strip of wires for? Could this damage be the cause of the faulty dmd?

Also, see how the speaker on the left is double the size of the speaker on the right....is this normal or has one of them been replaced/changed?

Thanks,

Mark.

The cable controls the display. Simply no cable no pictures. Suggest that you repair the cable and see if this fixes your display problems. If it doesn't then wires could of come apart from the DMD itself, again this can normally be repaired.

As for the speakers most SS machines have one large and one small speaker in the head, combined with the large woofer in the cabinet they provide 3 way sound.

pins from the glass display or " plastic zebra " connector ussally cracks at the edges of the glass itself ; first horizontal line

so check that first !

glass is heavy and not very good fixed on pcb the pinball moves on playing and the rest are the inertial forces

W pinball have three speakers

bass in the lower cabinet

middle and high ( frequencies ) on the display panel

speakers are ok

yeah thanks guys. you know how it is when you're restoring a pin and you just kinda want everything perfect, but then when you've got it all done you realise "some" imperfections aren't so bad or at least not worth fixing. This is the case here, 5 mins after it's been turned on it's not too bad and definitely doesn't affect game play.

I've now done 2 pins now and just about to start on my new Addams so I think I'll let that DMD problem slide:)

Hey Neil I need to talk to you soon about your riveting thing for ramps. What's your msn messenger address?

Mark.
