Unshopped Pinball Prices?

Recommended Posts

Hey peoples!

I was just wondering what an average price(s) for a DMD Pinball machine would be unshopped and need some work eg a European import. Say like in the state of the machines that Norm&Shaggy fixup on their DVDs.

ie will need a clean, rubbers, maybe some electrical work done, but the artwork is all mickeymouse and schmick.

Main reason is im looking at getting a pin cheap, and I dont really wanna be paying $2500+ for one, plus it can be a project pin and work on it over a few months. MarkC/Keith at Child Amusements can usually provide them 'un-shopped'

I was looking at one of these: Dracula, Attack From Mars and Funhouse.

Is around $1500>$1700 too optimistic?

(non of these prices include local/international shipping etc)

I use to own a dracula and had nothing but problems and have heard this from other people. With pinballs it pay to get something a little nicer than not. I have owned a few pinballs in the past and the cheapies end up costing more in the long run. Plus less playtime due to problems. My simpsons and starwars (both data east) never gave me a problem in the 5 - 6 years of owning them. Some machines are prone to problems and some are not. $1500 - $1700 i doubt you'll get something good. $2400 - $2800 is more likely. Try and aim for 1992 and up as these are really the cream of the bunch.

Hhmm, so you mean it's better to get a machine 100% working out of the box than risk buying a lemon?

Looks like i'll be saving a bit longer and getting one schmick.

I've heard that DataEast machines are pretty reliable (but are sucky games). My Tales from the Crypt ($2300 working %100 ~ great artwork cond.) has been pretty reliable so far (touch wood).

My next game is prolly Attack From Mars and then Funhouse.

What sort of probs did you have with Dracula?

The issue with shopped and unshopped is usually to do with artwork rather than electronics

Artwork is harder to repair and moreover is harder to get right. Therefore if a playfield is trashed, the price will be slashed as most people don’t have the time or inclination to put the effort in to fix it up. And there usually isn’t the option to just buy a spare and put it in if you get fed up.

Electronics can (I stress can) be an easy fix although it can also be the first step to trash a machine further. Additionally if the machine has just got electronic issues, you will be competing with dealers who will pay up to $2000 for a machine with flakey electronics. Even if they put $700 into it, they will put a price tag of between $3500 - $4000 on it.

Additionally, Funhouse is highly collectable as is Attack from Mars. I wish you luck getting one (even a very flakey one) for under $2000

Yeah, I was thinking along those lines ie get a machine that has a few electronic issues (nothing major like missing boards) but's artwork is in good nik eg most damage would be to an outhole.

I wouldnt really expect to get an AFM or FH for under $2000, but I was trying to get an idea on prices.

I've asked MarkC from child amusements a price on both shopped and unshopped (just get them to change pver the voltage for me), as they regularly ship in containers from europe.

UPDATE:

I was just quoted "$5000 to $7000" for AFM

Hey Mark,

Welcome to the boards, never thought i'd see you over here!

hey Mick

I am happy your TFTC is still working fine it was a good pinball and we did check it all over

heh, I trust your work ;)

Actually it's really good, and i'm more than pleased with it as a first buy. It hasn't had much work over the winter (too cold out in the shed) but now i'm moving out it's going into my new house :)

The VUK can be a bit flaky sometimes, but that's on the 'to-do' list, as well as replace the ball sensor switches in the trough, but it's still going 100%

I'm just trying to get some prices/quotes atm, but I will have to save my pennies since I just settled on my house yesterday. Hench the reason for wanting the best possible price.

I gotta buy a fridge first anyway :D
