  • Aussie Arcade changing website address to www.aussiearcade.com on 29th March

    Over the Easter break I'll be moving Aussie Arcade to the .com domain so please bookmark www.aussiearcade.com now please, the .com is set to redirect to the .com.au for now.
    This has been something I've been putting off for a few years due to the disruption it will cause but unfortunately it has to be done due to circumstances out of my control.

    Expect disruption to the site and down time from the 26th of March to the 1st of April.

    I know not everybody reads this section so please pass the word around.

      I changed my bookmark when I first saw this thread, but the dot com dropped dead the day after so I changed it back. I take it you were playing with the redirection for a bit?

      Yes that because after I made the post I was unaware the link was dead until I tried it myself. I made a redirect on the domain for the time being but after talking to the server OP I found out the reason it stopped working was and IP address change and changed it back so it took a day or so for it to filter through the ISP's.
      Should be all good and ready to go. Everybody should just bookmark and use www.aussiearcade.com now which will redirect to the .com.au for now.

      If that few have read it just make a topic they'll read and change the content to this. I thought it was pretty weird when noone commented on this topic after you posted, especially given how many of the users of this site aren't that tech savvy.

      Maybe most people don't realise what 'Domain' means, so therefore don't realise that it's an URL change (again another term they wouldn't get).

      'Aussie Arcade changing website address to www.aussiearcade.com on 1st of April' might get more people to notice?

      Any idea what I have to do in tapatalk to make sure this keeps working? When I search for "aussie arcade" I only see the forum that I am already subscribed to.

      When I log into the dot com domain, it doesn't actually log me in. The login seems to go via the au domain so the cookies never get set ? I guess that will be fixed when the changeover occurs?

      So i set my bookmark to aussiearcade.com/forum, then i had to login again, put my username and pw in, and it doesn't login (as David says above) - just keeps saying i am viewing as a guest.

      So do we leave it as aa.com.au until the changeover occurs? @Arcadeking

      I guess different browsers behave differently. I'm using Firefox and when I use .com it just redirects to .com.au and the site runs normally, so yes just keep using the .com.au if the .com asks for log in because it wont work until the settings are changed on AA.

      Ok, Did an intial test.

      Went to dot com address.
      Asked me to sign in, when I did redirected to dot com dot au.

      Which I believe is correct (at this stage)

      Using Safari on a mac

      Will test on Windows 10 and IE; Edge and Chrome

      Update : All works.

      I'd say anyone having a problem to delete their browser cache and cookies..

      I'm guessing the people having the issues are logging out when they finish on the site then using the .com to log back in. If this is the case and you do log out please continue using the .com.au until further notice.

      Just a quick question since only 111 members have seen this thread, is it possible from the forum software to send out a mass email to all users? If not, surely you could export the member list and send out emails. Maybe that's an option to notify everyone.

      I had to upgrade Tapatalk to get it to work.

      Good to hear mate. I was up from 5:30 in the morning and took me most the day.
      You can do it the quick and nasty way or properly which means going through the database and changing every instance of the .com.au to .com and since phpmyadmin is set to 65 meg files I had to break down the larger portionw of the database into smaller chunks, very time consuming

      Not sure why Tapatalk wasn't upgraded only the site url was changed, at least you got it going.

      It should fix the Fatal Error: Invalid URL issue too.

      All good here, tapatalk only required relogging in and changed bookmark and reverted favicon to my preference of the red ghost on PC.
